In the climate change scenario and the urgent need to reduce the use of non-renewable sources, the Power to Jet" route emerges as a technology to produce sustainable aviation fuel, SAF. However, the Power to Jet route producing alcohol as intermediates has been explored little by literature. This work aims to explore this route and to quantify the impacts of sustainable aviation fuel production by a life cycle assessment. The life cycle assessment was conducted following ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 and was assessed by CML-IA Baseline. The scope of this study from CO2 capture to grave. The inventory of inputs, outputs, emissions, and natural resources used was based on process simulation. The hydrogen used in the process was green hydrogen produced from electrolysis and from wind energy produced in northeast Brazil. The process yields methanol, SAF and gasoline. As results, it was found that the impact of SAF excluding CO2 capture is 3.3 g CO2 equivalent per MJ while the conventional Jet A is 89.0 g CO2 equivalent per MJ, that reflects a potential economy of 96.3% of CO2 emissions in SAF utilization, that clearly indicates the potential of this route.
